USA SOURCING STARTER KIT

PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS FROM RECRUITERS

Highly professional behaviour expected:

- Start with a formal introduction via email/text/LinkedIn.

- Request for tentative time slots (per the local time zone) - Time Zone

- Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams - can be used to set up calls

- Do not start with a Call/Whatsapp message, it is considered to be an invasion of privacy.

- It is illegal to ask the candidate for personal details such as Age, Gender, Marital Status, Sexual Orientation and Religion.

- Recruiters need to be well-versed on all details about the employer and role before reaching out to a candidate.

UNDERSTANDING SALARIES IN THE US

- The US is a very large country and has 50 states.

- State tax differs from one state to another.

- The cost of living varies fom one state to another.

- For example a person earning $65000 in Atlanta, Georgia is equal to $90000 in Stamford, CT.

- It is illegal to ask for a candidate’s current salary, but it is acceptable to ask for their expected salary.

COMMUNICATING WITH AN AMERICAN

Americans have their personal and professional life clearly demarcated. It is considered rude to call someone on a weekend. Work related calls can be scheduled only if the candidate has agreed to it.
